chrisEmigh Director of Choirs

Christian Emigh received his Bachelor of Music degree at California State University, Sacramento, and Master of Arts degrees in German Literature and Musicology from the University of Southern California.  He holds a credential in music instruction from Chapman University and secondary certification as a Kodály Music Specialist from Holy Names University.  Beyond his duties at Concord High School and El Dorado Middle School, Mr. Emigh has served as an instructor at Mount St. Mary’s College, Diablo Valley College, and the University of Southern California, and as the musicianship coach for the Chanticleer LAB Choir.  .  As a performer, Mr. Emigh has worked under the direction of Dr. William Dehning, Helmuth Rilling, and the composer Morten Lauridsen, and has appeared in collaboration with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and the Leipzig Baroque Ensemble.  Currently, Mr. Emigh is in his ninth season as a member of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus.  As a member of this group, he has worked under some of the world’s preeminent conductors, including: Michael Tilson Thomas, Kurt Masur, Bernard Labadi, and the composer John Adams.  In 2005, Mr. Emigh was selected as a member of WHO’S WHO AMONG AMERICA’S TEACHERS? , and now regularly serves as a festival adjudicator and clinician at competitive festivals and conferences throughout the year.  Outside of these varied commitments, Mr. Emigh is currently working toward the completion of his dissertation as a  doctoral candidate in Music Education at Boston University.



Show Choir Choreographer


Tom Segal received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance at Adelphi University in New York, and holds a credential in K-12 Education from Dominican University.  A professor of theater at Solano Community College, Mr. Segal also works as a director and choreographer for numerous reputable theater companies throughout northern California, including: 42 Street Moon, and the Marin Shakespeare Company.  In 2006, Mr. Segal was honored to serve as co-director for the 75 Birthday Tribute honoring Stephen Sondheim.  As a performer, Mr. Segal has been cast in over 150 productions throughout the continental United States and abroad, including contracted engagements with the National Folk Ballet of Israel, the Atlanta Ballet, and the San Francisco Opera.


Ladies First Barbershop Coach


Karen Fish received degrees in Music and English from California State University, San Jose, and is currently a member of the Diablo Vista Chorus.  Active as a performer as well as a coach for more than 25 years, Mrs. Fish has performed on the Sweet Adeline International Stage as a member of numerous quartets and premiere choruses.  Beyond her work with Ladies First, Mrs. Fish is the Music Director for the Young Women in Harmony division of Sweet Adeline’s, region 12.  Continually active as a competitive barbershopper, Mrs. Fish is currently preparing for the Sweet Adeline International Quartet Competition to be held this upcoming spring in Honolulu, Hawaii.


Joan Cifarelli, Accompanist


Joan Cifarelli was born in Pusan, Korea, and has resided in the Bay Area all her life.  Classically trained from age 7, Ms. Cifarelli started playing jazz piano at age 16.  She received her B.A. in Music from California State University, Hayward and holds a Masters in Classical Piano Performance from San Francisco State University.  As a performer, Ms. Cifarelli is well known throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area, and maintains an active performance schedule virtually year round. Known for her versatility as both a classical and jazz pianist, Ms. Cifarelli has worked in collaboration with the Diablo Theatre Company, the Contra Costa Musical Theater, The Vagabond Players, and Woodminster Amphitheater.  As a guest artist with the San Francisco Symphony and featured performer at the Razz Room, she has served as accompanist for Bernadette Peters, Jessye Norman, and the legendary Rita Moreno. Beyond her duties as a member of the piano faculty at Los Medanos College, Ms. Cifarelli maintains an active piano studio of private students and serves as the primary accompanist for Concord High School’s Show Choir and Concert Choir.
